Q.   What is the difference between a list broker, list manager and a list owner?

A.    Most of our lists are comprised of people who have previously purchased some product or service through mail order (multi buyers). The people on our mail lists are actually customers of the seller of that product or service. The seller is the list owner. Since manufacturing and selling lists is not the main business of the list owner, the list owner will often hire a specialist who organizes and markets the list for them. This is the list manager. List brokers are like real estate sellers, in that they bring the buyer (of the list) and the seller (list manager) together. Brokers, often specialize in one area of the market. The list broker should know the market and is best able to decide which list will work best with a specific mail piece. YOUR BEST FRIEND IN THE DIRECT MAIL MARKET IS A KNOWLEDGEABLE AND RESPONSIVE LIST BROKER. YOU CAN'T MAKE IT WITHOUT HIM.

Q.   What is the difference between a compiled list and a response list?

A.    As the term indicates, a compiled list is a list of names that is compiled from an existing directory or other source of public information. Home owners, credit card users, auto registrants, members of the AMA etc. A response list is created from people who have responded in someway to an advertisement, either by purchasing a product or service or by making an inquiry for more information about a product or service. Because people on response lists have indicated their interest, the list that contains their names will probably pull better for specific sales offers then will a compiled list. DAJ Direct manages, and brokers both types of lists.

Q.   What is the difference between a buyers list and an inquirers list, and why is a buyers list preferable?

A.   With a buyer's list, the person on the list has actually spent hard money to pursue his/her interest. In an inquirers list the person on the list has only asked for information. People on Buyer's Lists, are more responsive to your offer because they are serious. We manage both types of lists.

Q.   What type of lists does DAJ Direct broker?

A.   We broker all type of lists, including mail lists, both response and compiled, email lists and telephone lists. The most effective of these three types, are the mail lists. We do not handle fax lists, and all of our email lists are from "opt in" sources. (the people on these lists have asked to receive information and have provided their email addresses for this purpose) DAJ Direct DOES NOT ENCOURAGE SPAM. Contact us for current pricing on email and phone lists.

Q.   Does DAJ Direct sell its lists?

A.   DAJ Direct does not sell lists. We rent lists. All lists are rented for a one-time use only. They are seeded with decoy names to prevent any abuse by the mailer.

Q.   What do I need to order a list?

A.   Most lists supplied by the main stream list market have a min order of 5000 or more. In order for us to order and ship a list to you we must have prepayment for the list and a copy of the mail piece, email piece or telephone script you intend to use. We need this information because the list owners need to know what their customers will be getting from our list renters. Another example is that of a member of an MLM (multi-level marketing) organization mailing a piece created by an upline member of the same organization. By checking the mail piece, we are able to control the duplication of mailings that might result in multiple mail pieces of the same type, sent to the same address. It protects your interests and saves you money and frustration.

Q.   How will I pay for my list?

A.   We accept checks, money orders and cashier's checks. We do not accept credit cards. Because of the nature of the business, all sales are final. No returns or refunds are allowed on any purchase.

Q.   What is a Nixie?

A.   This is a term used in the trade for any undeliverable mail piece. This may be caused by a defect in the address, or perhaps the recipient has moved and left either no forwarding address, or a bad forwarding address. Nixies are less important then the number of responses. If you were to get a large number of nixes and also got 3% responses, that would be considered a great list. While no one wants a nixie, in most cases, 10 to 15% returns are considered normal for the biz op market. Our managed lists have always been low in nixies. However, if nixies bother you, you should mail as soon after the release day of the list as possible, to minimize those who have moved.

Q.   What if a mailing does not work for me?

A.   Because of the nature of the direct response business, particularly when dealing with opportunity seekers and opportunity lists, DAJ Direct cannot guaranteed any particular level of responsiveness or deliverability of any particular list. However, our experience within the business and with the lists that we recommend, allows us to help you choose that list that is most likely to work with your particular offer.

Q.   What kind of return can I expect from my mailing when using your lists?

A.   There is no standard return or response with any mailing list in existence. The response you will get depends on several things other then the list you use and how well it is suited to your offer. Such things as: the strength of your offer (if you wrote the mail piece yourself, how good are your copy writing skills?), your offer's price point, the time of year your offer is mailed, and how it is mailed (bulk or first class)? In the case of offers which are often produced by one person but mailed by a number of third party licensees, success can depend on how many others are mailing the same offer. There can also be many other variables. Companies that advertise that you can achieve a specific response using their lists, are best kept away from.

Q.   Is there a time limit involved in using the names I rent?

A.   There is no time limit on the use of the names, provided that they are used only once. However, the older the names become, the less responsive they become. Over time, prospects lose interest, move, or find their "opportunity" and "drop out of the market." This is when you get "nixies".
BACK

Q.   Would it be better for me to send my mail pieces by bulk mail or first class mail?

A.   Only a detailed analysis of mailings of your offer using both bulk and first class will tell you which method is ultimately most profitable for you. Bulk mail is less expensive, but first class mail has an aura of legitamacy. First class mail is more likely to be opened by the person who receives it.
BACK

Q.   How many names do I have to order?

A.   Minimum orders are normally 5000 or more names. Where a list segment, such as a quarter of the year, or a month for monthly lists, is smaller then 5000 names, the minimum order is the whole segment. Any first time customer may rent four or more lists to test, at a 3000 minimum each, for one time only.
BACK

Q.   You rent 5000 names as a minimum. How come I have seen lists sold in smaller quantities in magazines?

A.  The truth is that most mailing lists that are offered in small quantities are generated from inquiries made by people who are just "looking around". You might find these ads in newspapers, various magazines or in other Income Opportunity type ads that offer "free" information for some opportunity. The real purpose of these ads is to generate cheap names that will be rented to you. The real problem is that the people who answer these ads are not the serious people you need. To make your business grow, you need serious people who have already proven that they are committed. They have proven their commitment by having already spent money seeking their opportunity, or have proven themselves serious by some other means. BUYERS BUY. Most INQUIRERS JUST INQUIRE. However, we manage several very responsive inquirer lists. DAJ Direct, as a broker, rents the names of legitimate buying and seeking customers. We work on a small commission. Because the margins are small, little profit is made, even on orders of 5000. Our strategy in offering 5000 names as a minimum instead of 10000 or more, is to give the direct mailer a chance to try our lists, get successful results, and become a permanent satisfied customer.
